It was one in and one out for Ipswich Town on transfer deadline day as Joe Garner departed Portman Road for Wigan Athletic on a two-year deal.
The fee is expected to be around £1.25m which is excellent profit for a striker who’s been hit with injuries and does lack consistency when it comes to goal scoring form.
During his time for the tractor boys, the 30 year old from Blackburn managed to score a total of 10 league goals in 32 appearances.
His move to Wigan has had split opinions between Town fans with some saying he was below average where as others said that on his day he was a very good player and would always give 100%.
Garner was loved for being a very strong striker who wasn’t afraid of anything thrown at him. He enjoyed throwing himself about or even screaming at keepers, meaning that Ipswich fans had a love for him especially in a season where it was very difficult as fans, to find many positives on the pitch.
The departure of Joe would hopefully mean the signing of Josh Windass would have been successful, however as the time counted down, Windass made the move to Wigan alongside Garner.
Overall it’s been a very successful transfer window for the tractor boys as plenty of youth and new faces appear. It’s a different approach with a sense of optimism and excitement surrounding the football club, thank you Paul Hurst!
