Having spent 15 years with his local club Ipswich Town, Luke Hyam moves onto League 1 with Southend United, signing a two-year deal.
Since joining the club at the age of 11, Hyam has, majority of the time, been liked by the supporters with the “one of our own” chant ringing around the stadium.
Since making his debut back in 2010 Hyam has made 146 appearances, however major injuries have unfortunately dampened his career with the Tractor Boys.
Under Mick McCarthy this season, Hyam was given many opportunities off the bench and even start in certain games, making 17 appearances.
At the end of the season, the central midfielder had hinted that a move from Ipswich was likely to occur. Since his departure Hyam has said to the official club website. "First and foremost I just want to get back playing football. For the last two or three years I haven't played regularly”.
He will join former Town midfielder Anthony Wordsworth at Roots Hall.
