The wait goes on......Town’s search for that elusive win continues to go on after a comprehensive defeat against Frank Lampard’s Derby County in midweek.
It is frustrating but as preached before this is a long-term project and any fan that expected Town to go from midtable mediocrity to real force overnight needs a long word with themselves.
Paul Hurst is here to stop the club meandering and set it on a course that will bring back the love of the fans and potentially some success along the way. And there are signs.
On Tuesday there were impressive spells where Town controlled the ball and put together neat passages of play – the downside was a lack of cutting edge.
In all games this season, Town have had decent spells, but a lack of goals so far has set a worrying trend.
Ellis Harrison looks like a talented acquisition but he still finding his feet at this level with a lack of support from midfield leaving him quite isolated.
On Tuesday this was very apparent with little in the way of creativity or chances to put a pretty mediocre Derby side under any pressure.
To be fair to Town it took a wonder strike to break the deadlock, but it didn’t look like they were going to score if played all night.
Hurst is still finding his feet and it would be helpful if he could still add to his squad while the loan window remains open, but he needs to find a way to get more support to his lone striker in the meantime.
Town end their tricky week with a trip to Hillsborough on Saturday to face a Sheffield Wednesday side that got off the mark on Wednesday night at home to Millwall.
Hillsborough is always a tricky place to go but Town should feel they can go there and finally give Hurst his first win.
The win would be even more important with the Derby to come the week after – and we all know the record of that that match in the last decade.
Going into that game with a win would do the club wonders and would set it up nicely but first Wednesday must be taken care of in that search for win that will finally give this season lift off.
